Having performed to a full house in their most recent Hibike! Euphonium themed concert in March, Re:cinta Wind Symphony returns with a local flavour in a SYF theme concert.

“Following our last concert, we decided to change things up for the upcoming concert and give all current and ex-school band members in Singapore a touch of nostalgia, and our concertgoers an immersive live experience to remember,” said Nicholas Loh, secretary for Re:Cinta Wind Symphony.

“By having this SYF themed concert, Re:Cinta Wind Symphony hopes to deeper connect with the Youth Band Scene in Singapore, whilst sharing the wide variety of emotions and the unique environment of SYF Band Competitions with our audience. To further add authenticity, we have also selected Singapore Conference Hall as our performance venue, the same venue where SYF has been held for countless years,” he said.

While SYF themed concerts are not uncommon, this concert features some of more popular and challenging choice pieces ever played in the history of SYF, in the perspective of these young musicians during their time. Such repertoire include David Gillingham’s With Heart and Voice, Itaru Sakai’s Seventh Night of July, and David Maslanka’s Give Us This Day.

On top of the wide array of music, four of the set pieces from SYF 2017 to present, will be performed in the concert. They are Wong Kah Chun’s March Sunny Island (2017), Lee Jin Jun’s Festival on Earth (2019), and Party in Space (2019), as well as Bertram Wee’s Kinderszenen (2023).

“We plan to showcase the musical excellence and the undying passion of our young musicians, while maintaining the nostalgia and authenticity of the SYF theme. To spread the nostalgia of SYF, we decided to bring back some classic SYF set pieces, especailly the ones we performed during our school band times.” Nicholas highlighted.

“This concert would not be possible were it not for the immense amount of passion and musical skills of our very own members over the last eight weeks of rehearsals,” he continued.

“Do show us your support and experience our immersive SYF experience first hand by coming to Re:Cinta in Concert: SYF Edition. Hope to see you there!!”
