Massimiliano Girardi initiated, founded and served as the Artistic Director of the first EUREGIO festival (Trentino, South Tyrol and Tyrol) of classical music, Alpen Classica Festival and of the first EUREGIO saxophone festival, Alpen Classica Saxfest. Girardi has performed extensively with various ensembles such as the Milano Saxophone Quartet, Sargas Duo (saxophone and organ), and Work Song Duo (saxophone and accordion).

He has performed at world-famous concerts halls and academies such as the Wiener Musikverein (Golden Hall), Cavatina Hall, and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw as well as in renowned festivals including Klangspuren Schwaz, Milano Musica, Vienna Saxfest and many others. Girardi has recorded for Azzurra Music and Ambiente labels. An active exponent of contemporary music repertoire, Girardi has worked with renowned composers to widen the saxophone repertoire. He has collaborated with various contemporary ensembles including OENM (Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik). Girardi studied saxophone at the Milan Conservatory under the guidance of M. Daniele Comoglio, with whom he obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with top grades.

Further interests and inclinations in refining his artistic craft brought him to the Vienna Conservatory, where he attended a two-year specialisation course with conductor and saxophonist Lars Mlekusch. Besides saxophone, Girardi also obtained a degree in modern languages and literature and also in Euro-American languages from the University of Trento and the University of Graz.

Girardi is a D’Addario, Zac, Le Freque and Selmer Artist.
