Presented by The Band World and Powell Flutes
An experiential and lectured based two-hour presentation, this workshop is designed for all winds and brass instrumentalists across all music traditions with little to no experiences with improvisation. We will be exploring the fundamentals of improvising in the jazz tradition and also look into the tangibles (understanding lead sheets, basic chord theory, song forms etc) as well as the intangibles (what do I actually play in real time?) – and how to be creative with both aspects of the art form.
A few years of instrumental experience will be required; some basic knowledge of music theory will be helpful. Bring along your instruments as there will be a fun and interactive group jam session at the end of the presentation.
