As a gift to our nation on her 57th birthday, Nan Hua Symphonic Band will perform a repertoire comprising local favourites like Home written by Dick Lee in 1998 for the National Day Parade, and《细水长流》which was one of xinyao composer Liang Wern Fook’s best loved compositions. Other pieces include Kampong Love by Benjamin Yeo which is based on two familiar Malay folk songs, Di-Tanjong Katong and Rasa Sayang, and Stars of Tomorrow written by Wong Kah Chun.
Guided by the motto “One Heart, One Band, One Sound”, Nan Hua Symphonic Band is made up of sections of ardent students who enjoy making music together.
As a testimony to the bandsmen’s commitment and dedication, Nan Hua Symphonic Band has been awarded Certificates of Distinction at the bi-annual Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation since 2013, as well as the Gold award at the Singapore International Band Festival in 2018.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in the past two years, Nan Hua Symphonic Band continued to provide students with the opportunity to hone their skills through online platforms.
Nan Hua Symphonic Band is led by conductors Chua Tiong Hong, Tan Soh Hwa and Takehiro Oura who have tirelessly given bandsmen invaluable guidance through the years.
