Band Weekend 2021

Presented by Esplanade, three-day Band Weekend 2021 from Friday, 5 February to Sunday, 7 February, will feature some of Singapore’s best bands and ensembles.

Friday, 5 February

Kicking off the Friday evening is the YST Trombone Quartet, led by Sam Armstrong, and comprising of Shin Tanaka, Khamidulla Borliboev and Oleksii Ubozhenko, with music by Haydn and Schubert, as well as familiar tunes such as St Louis Blues and Leonard Bernstein’s One Hand One Heart.

Band of Jurong Green Community Club – Mus’Art Wind Orchestra will present a collage of song arrangements such as Omens of Love, Chan Mali Chan, There’s a part for everyone and Together we can, under the baton of resident conductor Wilson Ong.

Saturday, 6 February

Ensembles from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) School of Music will re-visit classical music from 1700s to the 2000s, with arrangements by the wind quintets, saxophone quartets, brass quintets and bigger chamber music groups.

Under the baton of conductor Francis Tan, Band of Bukit Batok Community Club – West Winds will bring an evening of popular easy listening hits. Expect familiar soundtracks from animated works, Singapore drama productions and well-loved dance hits.

Sunday, 7 February

Singapore’s first and only professional clarinet quartet, Clarinet Concord, brings together four of the country’s finest clarinet players, presenting classic tunes such as Tritsch-Tratsch Polka,Sabre Dance and Salut d’Amour, along with many other favourites.

Wrapping up the Band Weekend is the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Central Band led by Director of Music ME5 Tan Aik Kee, performing music such as Superman March, Pomp and Circumstance, Disney Festival and Grandfather’s Clock, featuring Euphonium soloist Kang Chun Meng.
