The Philharmonic Winds returns to the Esplanade this Sunday, bringing back their popular “pop series”, in a collaboration with the vocalists from Lee Wei Song School of Music.
“We are excited and definitely loving the series. It is not something that we can afford to do often, given the immense work needed in arranging the music, and trying to make things exciting and different from previous installments. We take pride in ensuring we can produce a show that matches our audience’s rising expectations,” said Lionel Lye, General Manager of Philwinds.
The collaboration came about through the resident conductor’s acquaintance with Mr Jay Lim, the current principal at the school of music, who also previously featured in one of Philwinds pop concerts.
“We thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the School’s vocal trainers, and bring the best of local pop to our audience. Once the link was made, everything came together magically.”
Under the baton of Dr Leonard Tan, the band will perform hits from A-Lin, Jam Hsiao, Aska Yang, and music from the soundtrack of hugely-popular movies, Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman. There will also be a medley of the top Kpop hits, and local stars Stefanie Sun and JJ Lin‘s most popular pieces.
“Our repertoire is unique as most of the music is specially arranged for Philwinds. As for surprises… the audience will have to come and find out!”
