Organized by Singapore Wind Symphony, Comworks 2019 is a revival of the series that was originally initiated in 2001 as part of its community efforts.
“For younger audience who are unaware of Comworks, the main objective is to create a platform for sharing and learning. In this Saturday’s concert, SWS will perform pieces that secondary schools have chosen for their SYF 2019 Arts Presentation, which will be conducted by the schools’ band directors,” said Gabriel Song, a member of SWS.
Participating in this program are students from the bands from Broadrick Secondary School, East Spring Secondary School, Hillgrove Secondary School, Manjusri Secondary School, Meridien Secondary School and Woodlands Ring Secondary School.
Prior to the concert itself, the students of the schools were engaged in a joint rehearsal session with SWS, to work on the musical expectations and directions of piece.
“This year, we aimed to provide more than just a concert for the students, we held a mentoring workshop where students were seated alongside SWS members to rehearse both their pieces. Through the mentoring workshop, the students were not only able to pick up various performance techniques from SWS but also had the privilege to receive guidance from our guest conductor, Mr Joost Flach,” Gabriel said.
Apart from the SYF pieces, SWS under the baton of guest conductor Joost Flach will also present three pieces, namely, Leeman’s Marche Des Parachutistes Belges, Johan de Meij’s arrangement of Zweer’s To My Country, as well as Serge Lancen’s Le Mont Saint Michel.
