Resident band of the Yuhua Community ClubOBOG Wind Symphony, will be exploring the music of Malaysian film actor P. Ramlee this coming Saturday afternoon.

“This project was mooted from our original idea of a LKY tribute through pop oldies for the Yuhua residents. We thought that it is better to do something on a long term, which will be more ideal,” said Perina Chan, a member of its committee.

The Yuhua Serenading Series was created last year, with the band performing familiar Chinese oldies. The series continues this year as the band seeks to explore repertoire from different races and eras.

“It is our way to allow residents to know us better and also share the joy of music through the songs that many of the residents would know.”

Arranged by OBOG’s very own flautist Darren Sng, the band will perform some of P. Ramlee’s classics such as ‘Getaran Jiwa‘ and ‘Jangan Tinggal Daku‘, as well as music from his comedy film ‘Bujang Lapok‘. Other pieces in the program include several National day tunes, and ‘Carpenters Forever‘, arranged by Toshio Mashima.

“Our intent is to keep this series going for the years to come. We plan to engage the community even more, by holding our events at the CC so that more residents can be exposed to our programs. ”

“We want to be able to connect with our community using the medium that we know best – music.”
