Organized by the Band Directors’ Association of Singapore (BDAS), “Schools In Concert” is a new series for school bands in Singapore.
This platform aims to provide opportunities for school bands to perform at various concert halls and allow the students to showcase their talents on stage and enhance their performing experiences.
“We hope that through this series, we assist to minimize the logistical and event management demands on schools to organise their own concerts, replied Mr Andrew Kuek, current President of the association, when asked about the formation of the idea.
The inaugural “Schools In Concert” series takes place on 9 November, 7pm at the Victoria Concert Hall. Students from CHIJ Katong Convent Concert Band, Montfort Secondary School Military Band, Rivervale Primary School Brass Band and Saint Anthony’s Canossian Primary School Concert Band will have their first opportunity to hold a public concert.
“Participation details for this program are sent to our association members via mass invitation. Each participating director will be invited to form the concert committee led by a BDAS council member to coordinate for the concert,” Andrew said.
“Each participating band will handle an equal portion of the audience capacity, and will present a set of repertoire between 15 to 20 minutes,” he continued.
BDAS intends to organize this event annually as a form of continuous support for the band directors and schools in Singapore.
