On 20 February, a band exchange hosted by Yishun Primary School saw 7 participating bands from St. Anthony’s Primary School, St. Joseph’s Institution Junior, Catholic Primary School, Rivervale Primary School, Naval Base Primary School and Bendemeer Primary School.

The exchange was to allow bands to showcase their choice pieces and for the various band members to be exposed to the music from other schools. The event followed an “SYF style” setting whereby bands are “balloted” into an order of appearance to perform in front of an “adjudicator”, who was none other than A.P. Ho Hwee Long.

At the end of the day, schools exchanged gifts and wrapped up the fruitful experience with a combined photo taking session.

“Hosting a band exchange is an excellent learning platform for our young musicians between 9 to 12 years old to enhance their exposure in performances, gain confidence and meet new friends through music,” said Faizal Othman, conductor of Yishun Primary School Band.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all participating bands at the exchange and I wish all primary school bands the best for the upcoming SYF AP. Let’s play music from the heart!” he continued.
