Here’s Why You Should Look At Your Set Piece Again

If you have been practicing without these errata issued by the publisher, you need to re-look again and make the amendments needed.

Let’s face it, nobody’s perfect and composers and publishers do make additional effort to ensure the final printed product is correct. However, with the amount of errata listed below, it leaves us wondering what happened since 1999? What happened to those who have bought for their performances?

And, of course, why did the Ministry of Education choose to give out ‘exam papers’ with errors?

On the Saxophone parts,
Eb Alto Saxophone 1 should be for 2nd Alto Saxophone, and
Eb Alto Saxophone 2 should be for 1st Alto Saxophone.

Bar 38 / Eb Clarinet: The last note A should be read an octave higher
Bar 63 / Horn 1:  The first note E should read D (lower)
Bars 67-90 / Mallet Percussion: This part is written for the glockenspiel
Bars 86-88 / Timpani: Performance of these bars is optional
Bar 103 / Bb Trumpet 2, Bb Trumpet 3: Add a dotted minim G to these parts. (following Bb Trumpet 1 part)
Bar 110 / Timpani: Performance of this bar is optional
Bars 115-117 / Timpani: Performance of these bars is optional
Bars 118-119 / Percussion 1: This part is written for the tambourine
Bars 142-147 / Percussion 2: The Tam-Tam part should be tied
Bar 147 / Percussion 2 (Tam-tam): There should be no roll, just let ring

Movement II

Bar 8 / Bass: The last semiquaver D note should read C (lower)
Bars 62-65 / Percussion 1: The Cymbal part should be tied
Bar 63 / Bb Clarinet 3: The first note F should read E
Bar 71 / Mallet Percussion: The last note Ab should read A♮ (lower)
Bar 125 / Bb Trumpet 1: The last quaver B should read C (higher)
Bar 142 / Bassoon: The first note Bb should read A (lower)
Bar 143 / Bassoon: The first note F should read G
Bar 173 / Trombones: Add “Open”
Bar 176 / Bb Clarinet 1: The 3rd quaver F# should read F♮ (lower)
